A free SEO strategy session and the free Link Building Mastery book are the two free things I get asked about most.

Both are genuinely free. Both are genuinely useful. They solve different problems.

If you grab the wrong one for where you are right now, you'll waste either 30 minutes of my time or 4 hours of yours.

This article is the honest comparison — what each one is for, who benefits from each, and how to pick the right one for your situation.

🔥 Not sure which to grab? Read the next 4 minutes — I'll tell you. Or skip the decision and book the free SEO strategy session — 30 minutes, with me, no pitch. → Book it

The one-line answer

If your bottleneck is implementation — read the book.

If your bottleneck is diagnosis — book the call.

Most people don't know which one they have. The rest of this article makes it obvious.

What each one is, properly

The free Link Building Mastery book is a 200-page playbook I wrote covering the full link-building system I run at Goldie Agency. Twelve chapters, every tactic, every script, every framework. Self-paced. Read it cover-to-cover in 4 hours, or dip in by chapter.

A free SEO strategy session is a 30-minute live diagnostic call with me. We open your Search Console + Ahrefs together, find the three biggest gaps in your SEO, and you walk away with a specific plan for the next 30-90 days. Live, two-way, personalised.

The book is breadth. The call is precision.

The book is one-to-many — I wrote it once, anyone reads it. The call is one-to-one — your site, your numbers, your plan.

Different tools for different jobs.

When the book is the right pick

Book first if any of these is you:

You're early stage and just learning link building. The book covers the full system from scratch. Read it before you waste 30 minutes of a senior diagnosis asking what a referring domain is.

You've already had a strategy session somewhere and you know the answer is "build more / better links." Now you need the implementation system. The book is the system.

You're a writer, founder, or marketer who'd rather self-pace than sit on a call. Books are async. Calls are not. Some people just learn better from text.

Your budget for SEO is essentially £0 and you want to DIY for 6-12 months. The book gives you everything to do that.

You're going to read the book anyway before booking a call — most operators who eventually hire us read the book first to vet whether what we say there matches what we actually do.

If you fit any of those — grab the book. Free, 200 pages, no upsell.

When the strategy session is the right pick

Book the free SEO strategy session if any of these is you:

You're running a B2B SaaS, ecom, or service business doing $500K-$50M revenue and you suspect SEO is under-performing relative to what it should do.

You don't know what your real bottleneck is. Is it links? Content? Technical? Intent match? A 30-minute live diagnostic answers that in the first 15 minutes. The book doesn't — it assumes you already know.

You're considering hiring an SEO agency and want a senior outside opinion before you spend $10K-$25K/month.

You're an agency owner and want a senior peer to look at a stuck client account, or want to talk about white-label link building.

You've already implemented "the basics" and you're stuck. Books help when you're learning. Calls help when you're stuck.

If you fit any of those — book the call. 30 minutes, with me, no pitch.

When the answer is "both, in this order"

For most serious operators the right move is actually both — in a specific order.

Order: book first, call second.

Why this order: the book gives you the framework, the vocabulary, the system. Then on the call we can skip the basics and spend 30 minutes on YOUR site, YOUR numbers, YOUR specific bottleneck. The call goes 3x deeper if you've read the book first.

About 60% of the people who book strategy sessions with me have already read Link Building Mastery. Those calls are noticeably better than the ones where they haven't.

If you've got 4 hours this week, read the book first. Then book the call. The combined value is wildly higher than either alone.

When the answer is "neither — go do something else first"

Honest list of cases where both the call AND the book are the wrong starting point:

For everyone else: book, call, or both.

What the book covers that the call doesn't

If you're trying to decide based on content overlap:

The book has 12 chapters going wide:

  1. Why most link building doesn't work anymore
  2. The asset-first framework
  3. Finding link-worthy angles
  4. Outreach scripts that convert at 18%+
  5. Digital PR for DR80+ backlinks
  6. HARO + expert quotes properly
  7. The link relationship engine
  8. AI-assisted prospecting at scale
  9. Internal linking nobody teaches
  10. The 3-link-a-week system
  11. Tracking + measuring ROI
  12. Selling link building to clients

A strategy session covers maybe 2-3 of those — whichever is the bottleneck for YOUR site. Depth, not breadth.

If you want to learn the field, the book wins. If you want to fix YOUR site, the call wins.

For deeper reading on specific link-building topics covered in the book, how to build backlinks for SEO is the chapter-1 summary, and guest post outreach template is the chapter-4 condensed version. Link building for beginners is the starting point if you're brand new.

How they connect to my paid work

Both the free book and the free strategy session are the front door to the paid side.

If after either one you want done-for-you, that's Goldie Agency — retainers from $7,500/month, run by me directly.

If you want a peer network of operators running the same system at scale, that's the SEO Elite Circle — $97/month, application-based.

If you want the AI-driven version of the workflows, that's the AI Profit Boardroom — $59/month.

But neither is a requirement. Plenty of people grab the book or the call and get exactly what they need to run it themselves.

FAQ — free SEO strategy session vs free book

Are they really both free or is there a hidden cost?

Both genuinely free. No card to book the call. No payment to download the book. The only "cost" is your time and (for the book) your email.

Can I do the call AND the book?

Yes, and I recommend it. Read the book first if you have time. Calls go 3x deeper when you've already got the vocabulary.

Will you sell me on Goldie Agency if I book the call?

The pitch never starts before minute 22 of the call, and only if you bring up working together. About 70% of the calls end with me telling people what to do without us.

Does the book cover everything we'd cover on the call?

No. The book is the framework. The call is YOUR site, YOUR numbers, YOUR specific bottleneck. Different depth and personalisation.

How long does the book take to read?

About 4 hours cover-to-cover. Most people read it over a weekend or in chapter-sized chunks across a fortnight.
